Article Outline

To the Editor:

I read this article with interest, but there are some important omissions and some points that perhaps the authors could clarify. They state the average age of the 100 patients studied was 65 years (46-82 years), but their study is comparing 2 groups (ACL intact and ACL deficient) and we are not told the age and range within each group. This is of fundamental importance when trying to interpret their results. In addition, the authors have not compared the pattern of wear with patient sex.

The authors found no correlation between the severity of deformity and the pattern of wear on the medial tibial plateau. This is in contrast to a recent article by Moschella et al [2] who found this to be highly significant (Mann-Whitney P < .001). Moschella et al also found that there was a significant difference (P = .001) between the wear distribution and the ACL integrity. Perhaps the authors could comment on why this may be?
